Bürkert opens a new site in ChinaThe new Bürkert building complex in Taicang Port, in the east of the People’s Republic of China, was officially opened at a splendid inauguration ceremony on 11 October 2023. With the new building, Bürkert Fluid Control Systems is strengthening its position in the Asian area and can therefore support customers more closely on site.
A new plant for the international fluidics specialists Bürkert was completed at the beginning of the year in the Chinese town of Taicang Port. A state-of-the-art building complex, which houses a production, technology and logistics centre, an administrative unit and a training centre, was erected on approximately 40,000 square metres. Employees were able to move into the first rooms at the end of 2022, after approximately 18 months of construction time.
“The goal was to create an agile and diverse Bürkert site for system development, production, assembly, state-of-the-art logistics and training and further training, which fulfilled sustainability and energy efficiency requirements,” explains Harald Schmidt, Bürkert China General Manager, and adds: “At the same time, the building is to be the new home for our workforce and strengthen trust in the Suzhou Bürkert site and the sales region in Asia and China.”
A total of 400 employees are now working in Taicang Port in the fields of material demand planning, production, quality assurance, research and development, and purchasing, finance and human resources.
At the official inauguration on 11 October 2023 by the Bürkert management, Bürkert CEO Georg Stawowy was keen to highlight the significance of the building in Taicang Port: “The past three years have shown that economic cycles, political and legislative requirements and the availability of materials and staff will change even more rapidly. Uncoupling supply chains has also been discussed extensively. It is clear to us that we must get even closer to our customers in order to be able to react more quickly to changing customer expectations.”
Investment in the future
The new building is not only essential for Bürkert from an economic perspective. The topic of sustainability also plays a significant role in investment, meaning that the building has subsequently been certified with the internationally recognised LEED system. LEED stands for “Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design” and is an award for companies that are leaders in energy topics and environmental design. The certification is awarded by the US Green Building Council (USGBC) in a total of eight subject fields: energy and global environmental impacts, infrastructural involvement of the site, property qualities, innovations, indoor air quality, water efficiency, and material cycles and resource preservation.
As with all new Bürkert buildings, methods intended to be as sustainable as possible were also used in Taicang Port: as well as a geothermal energy pump that uses heat present in the ground to heat rooms, a photovoltaics system that converts sunlight into energy was installed. In bad weather, rainwater is collected in an approx. 400 cubic metre basin and can then be reused.
Due to the close proximity with the booming metropolis of Shanghai, with outstanding universities and schools, the existing site is Suzhou is increasingly being used as an engineering centre.
With the building in Taicang Port, Bürkert continues to consolidate its position on the Asian market and will honour the motto “We make ideas flow.” even more in future, together with partners and customers.
